Visits to Literacy Centers which make up the Rotalpha network:

During months of August, September and October Jude, Samson and Ulrick visited some of the literacy centers which use the method CLE and which make up the Rotalpha network. Here is a summary of their visits and what they found:

Pignon: The Pignon Rotary Club has had literacy program functioning successfully during the past three years. In July, 125 participants graduated from a year of literacy. Ulrick met with three of the instructers to get stories and learn about their program. Instructors are finishing their personal studies (philo) and the literacy program is not functioning school year 2002-03.

Multi-Dynamic: There are 14 employees here who have learned to read and write during this past year.

Cap Haitian: Three of eight centers completed the school year 2001-02. Samson visited two of these three and found 75 participants learning to read and write. Reportedly there are 10 active participants in the third center.

Chatelain Cargo: Samson had one employee here who has successfully learned to read and write.

Limye Lavi: One employee completed last school year and this year there are 5 in the center.

Kot de Fe: 12 paticipants completed school year 2001-02 and 25 are in the center currently (school year 2002-03)

Mariaman: One center with 18 people who finished last school year and 30 are involved this year (2002-03).

PegguyVille?: 12 participants learned to read and write. This center has not reopened.

Lagonav (Lekol Maten Nwa): Ten (?) participants completed school year 2001-02. We're not sure how many are participating currently.

This means that participants and instructers from 13 Literacy Centers were invited in person and with a written letter to submit material to be considered for publication in "Rotalfabetizasyon an Aksyon." This breaks down to 16 literacy instructers (three centers have two each) and approximately 194. Total of instructers and participants invited to submit: 210.

There were 38 pieces of information submitted. 19 were in the form of interviews for which Jude, Samson and Ulrick asked questions and wrote (later typed) reponses. 12 of these 19 were either literacy instructors or Rotarians and 7 were interviews with participants.

19 stories--2 by instructors and 17 by participants--were submitted in the handwriting of the author.

About 100 pictures were taken in total. Film has not yet been developed, thus, we are not certain how many might be appropriate for the book.

Total spent for transportation, meals and lodging and some supplies to accomplish the work above: $476. (12,852 goud).

Jude, Samson and Ulrick have each received US$300 as stipends for the work described above. According to the budget, they are entitled to an additional US$60. Yet to be accomplished is assembling the material which will be in the book: "Rotalfabetizasyon an Aksyon."

Cameras and film were purchased by Rotarian Nessime Izmery.
