Our college system used OSt extensive a few years back on a project called [learning@maricopa.edu].

"MARICOPA'S LEADERSHIP AND INSTITUTIONAL TRANSFORMATION AGENDA for the 90's have been focused on securing Learning as our core value so we can live all the dimensions and diversity of the past, present, and future. We also hope that the dynamics of learning can help us address challenges and issues with creative, systemic, and integrated approaches, choices, and solutions. We invite you to be an active participant in our conversations and quest to learn more about Learning and how to nurture and sustain Learning!"

The [learning@maricopa.edu paper] was developed after soliciting input form all instructional councils across our 10 college system in an effort to "re-define" what learning means at Maricopa. An [open letter] was sent to all Maricopa employees to inviote them to join a series of Open Space Forums to reflect on the paper.

For each of the [11 meetings] we archived a summary of discussions, photos, and other summaries. In addition an [executive summary (436k PDF)] was published in 1999.

The OST format was very effective in these sessions and modified versions were used in future activities including [Dynamic Discussions] at our 2000 Faculty Convcation, where OST was used to brainstorm

A slightly different version which we called "Cafe Discussions" for brainstorming were used at our Ocotillo instructional tecgnology retreats in [1999] and [2002]. This format was effective to move a large group of peopke through a series of issues in a short period of time.
