I enjoy helping organizations create networks to collaborate with partners on common goals. My approach leverages good practices from the United Nations Knowledge Networks. Two of my current projects include: 1. Facilitating the development of a global communications strategy for the Compassionate Action Network. Our current tasks include answering key questions about the CAN organization and then we’ll conduct a “needs assessment” survey to define the requirements. 2. Advising the Environmental Education Association of Washington (EEAW) on a strategy to create an online network that will implement a statewide plan for environmental education. The stakeholders include government agencies at the local, city, and state levels, plus educators and other environmental activists.

When you think about leadership in a self-organizing world, what questions are cooking you? What do you hope to learn at this gathering?: • In the past, I’ve worked with corporations and academic institutions, but when I developed a global wiki for Seeds of Compassion, I learned that working with volunteers requires a different set of skills. Our project went fairly smoothly and our spirits were buoyant, but I need to learn more about working with volunteers and self-organizing groups. • How can we effectively and efficiently leverage the “wisdom of crowds” to create positive change? I have some ideas from graduate work via the UN that I’m not sure how to implement.

1. Advising the Environmental Education Association of Washington (EEAW) on a strategy to create an online network that will implement a statewide plan for environmental education. Network members include government (state, regional, local), educators (K-12, Higher, Tribal), business, and communities.

2. Facilitating the development of a global information and communications technology (ICT) strategy for the Compassionate Action Network. (I was not involved with the current CAN website design)

EXPERIENCE:

1. United Nations - Graduate research focused on how information and communications technology can accelerate positive change. Pam learned about how the UN uses knowledge networks to help partners in 192 member nations meet the UN Millennium Development Goals.

2. Microsoft - Program Manager on MSN Home page and other top portals. Wrote a global online strategy for Bill Gates' book titled Business @ the Speed of Thought.

3. Foundations - Consultant for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Honor Day Foundation, Kirlin Foundation (for event below)

4. Seeds of Compassion - Collected ideas from 75 nations and territories for an event with the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu in Seattle. See http://wiki.seedsofcompassion.org (The Compassionate Action Network above is one outcome of this event).
