My name is Sigrid Gruener and I work at the Center for International Conflict Resolution at Columbia University. I would like to register for the Open Space event in Chicago on November 6 - 8.

At the Center we have been using the Open Space model with our international partners from and in East Timor, Burma, Syria and Iraq for several years with great success. My colleague Zachary Metz attended the Open Space event in Goa last month and found it quite interesting to see how different groups are working with Open Space. In Chicago I hope to have that opportunity also, as well as to have the chance to meet other practitioners who might be able to share ideas and stories about challenges or new ways of using OS.

Ms. Sigrid Gruener, Director of Conflict Assessment at the Center for International Conflict Resolution has been engaged in coordinating comparative research on assessment methodologies and recently led two teams of researchers in conducting field-based conflict assessments in Panama and East Timor. She has been actively involved in the design and instruction of the graduate seminar on conflict assessment offered at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. Ms. Gruener is also actively involved in the work of CICR’s Iraq program. In this capacity she most recently supported the design and delivery of conflict resolution trainings for civil society leaders in northern Iraq. Prior to joining CICR’s Conflict Prevention Program Ms. Gruener worked as a consultant to the Pan American Development Foundation supporting a USAID-funded project on strengthening hometown associations with field-based research on issues of migration, diaspora communities, remittance flows and development. Ms. Gruener holds a Master of International Affairs degree in Economic and Political Development from Columbia University’s School of International and Political Affairs. She received her undergraduate degree in International Studies and Economics from American University in 1998.
