I've been a computer programmer since the late seventies when I carted a TRS-80 to highschool in the Bronx on the NYC subways. My training and official career have been at MIT, Xerox, & SAP while outside that I have learned through personal growth workshops, improvisational theater, and a spiritual practitioners license. I work out of my home in Montana since 1998 after moving from the SF Bay Area. The last ten years have been in information visualization and user interfaces, but now I seem to be shifting towards software and team practices. I ran an Open Space for SAP BusinessObjects? the beginning of 2008 shortly after being trained in San Francisco by Lisa Heft. I've run two BarCamps? in Missoula using Open Space Technology. I'm currently studying other social change technologies like Appreciative Inquiry, the Core Protocols, and Theory U.

Tell us about a meaningful experience you have had with self-organizing and/or ways you are engaging with new forms of leadership and organization.: The most meaningful self-organizing experience for right now has been seeing people blossom in passion and enthusiasm by facilitating an Open Space in Montana, seeing and participating in wonderful conversations, and finding out things I hadn't know about people I already knew. The freedom of Open Space is so wonderful. Ways I'm engaging in new forms of leadership is through forming two study groups at SAP Business Objects, one of which is specifically about encouraging leadership for people without titles. We're reading Clear Leadership and wondering about ways we can improve this kind of leadership in the company.

When you think about leadership in a self-organizing world, what questions are cooking you? What do you hope to learn at this gathering?: What are the best and greatest theories, practices, and experiences that help focus and enlighten a group dynamic that gives everyone space to be brilliant and offer their best? How do we foster and improve the adoption of proven techniques that help people feel alive and contributing and that have the most potential for positive benefit to customers and everyone involved? Where are the places that these new ideas can make the most difference in our world? Who and where are the most wonderful people doing this work, and how can I chip in?
