What is it?

The Open Space on Open Space is the annual gathering of OST practitioners from around the world. We've had seven of these gatherings in North America and in October 2000, we leapt the big pond and then some, gathering in Berlin, Germany. The next gathering will be in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, in August 2001. Here are the details from our Canadian hosts... AND, please do forward this invitation and/or URL to anyone you think would be interested in this special gathering!

Open Space on Open Space IX
August 18-21, 2001
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

OSonOS IX will be held on the campus of the University of British Columbia in the Sty-Wet-Tan Great Hall at the First Nations House of Learning.  The UBC campus is perched on the cliffs of Point Grey, 200 feet above the Strait of Georgia with views across the Strait to Vancouver Island, and over Vancouver Harbour to the North Shore mountains, which rise 5000 feet out of the ocean.

Program

We will begin on the evening of the 18th of August with a reception and open the conference on August 19th with a welcome from representatives of the Musqueam Nation, upon whose traditional territory we will be meeting.  The conference will run over two and half days, concluding at noon on August 21.

Facility

The Sty-Wet-Tan Great Hall is the centerpiece of the First Nations House of Learning at the university of British Columbia.  Sty-Wet-Tan  is a Musqueam word meaning "west wind spiritual power," a powerful and positive force in the Musqueam world.

The Great Hall itself It is modeled on a West Coast longhouse, and contains four huge hand carved house posts and two massive roof beams.  The posts were carved by well known west coast carvers and embody the culture of the artists and the spirit of the Hall.  There are numerous spaces to convene sessions including a waterfall, a half acre arboretum, a sacred circle for reflective discussions and numerous nooks, crannies, and rooms.
